This playlist tells the remarkable story of how Concorde came to Brooklands Museum, from the disappointment of losing one aircraft to the successful arrival of another that, in my view, proved to be the best possible choice.
At the heart of the story is Concorde G-BBDG, the first British production Concorde. These videos follow some of the aircraft's journey to Brooklands and celebrate the effort, teamwork and determination that made its preservation possible.
Transporting Concorde to Brooklands was a major undertaking. With the invaluable help of good friends Chris Jones of CeeJay and Terry Palfrey of Queens Motors, we moved the outer wings, front fuselage, rear fuselage and many other components to the museum. The centre section required a police escort and was moved while I was away, so I was unable to film that stage. Once the aircraft had been rebuilt at Brooklands, however, it became part of an extraordinary restoration story and a source of lasting enjoyment for everyone involved.
