Vickers Viscount Related Videos
This playlist, although about Viscount aircraft, also tells the remarkable story of Vickers Viscount G-APIM "Stephen Piercey", one of the most important aircraft preserved at the museum. It also shows some of the enthusiast flights undertaken to unique places to raise funds for VSP's restoration.
The name is in memory of the respected aviation photographer and editor who was tragically killed whilst photographing aircraft. The Viscount was named in his honour by friends and colleagues at British Air Ferries. Sadly, not long afterwards the aircraft was involved in a ground collision and was written off, eventually leading to its preservation.
In 1990, we recovered the aircraft from Southend Airport and transported it to Brooklands. To raise funds, we offered enthusiast day trips to places like Le Bourget, Duxford, Basel Mulhouse and Jersey — video of those remarkable trips is also included. The playlist also pays tribute to Roger Hargreaves, whose tireless work and leadership were instrumental in the acquisition.
