Following the closure of the Brooklands airfield, a dedicated team of volunteers worked to keep the aviation tradition alive. These videos record that effort and show a wide variety of aircraft visiting, displaying over, or operating from Brooklands over the years.
The first Brooklands fly-in took place in 1987 using a temporary grass strip beside the River Wey. Later events operated from the surviving section of the historic Vickers runway. On several occasions nearly forty aircraft attended, creating memorable gatherings of classic, vintage and light aircraft, and some helicopters.
When Mercedes-Benz World was developed, access to much of the former runway was lost, and operations moved to a nearby grass strip. Despite limited resources, volunteers continued to organise successful aviation events. Since 2022, Brooklands Museum has, with the assistance of Mercedes-Benz World, once again been able to operate from a section of the original Vickers runway, helping to continue Brooklands' long aviation heritage.
